"May There Always Be Sunshine" Contest Results

 We are very happy to inform you that we have selected  the winners of the "May There Always Be Sunshine" contest of essays and creative projects dedicated to the 95th Artek Anniversary and 75th World War II Victory Anniversary. This year the contest was held among American students only.

According to the contest rules, each winner will be awarded a voucher to participate in the 8th International season at the Children's International Center "Artek"  scheduled for July 15/16 - August 4/5, 2020. Due to COVID-19 outbreak, it is highly likely that the decision may be made by Artek to postpone the International season and award vouchers for the next year. We are still waiting for a final word from Artek regarding this issue.

We would like to thank our Judges who dedicated their time to go through so many talented works and decide who can go to ARTEK.

Our judges are Artekovtsy of different generations  from different countries: 


Aleksandr M. Bezludko (Artek employee 1977-2019), the Khrustalny camp director (2005-2016), a Legend for many artekovtsy, just like Absolyut or the Ayu-Doug.

Beena Ka, Аrtek-1977; a participant of the 1977 “May There Always Be Sunshine” Festival at Artek. She has published 28 books: travelogues, short story collections, novels for children, including “11 flags” about Artek, collection of essays, memoirs and media-related books.  (India).

Bento Baloi, Artek-1981; an activist, international expert on strategic planning, communication management and inter-cultural exchanges, bank director, an author of the book “Recados da Alma" (Mozambique).

Irina S. Karabulatova, Artek-1981; Dr of Philological Sciences, Professor, Member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, Professor of Department of Foreign Languages of Philological Faculty Department at the “Peoples' Friendship University” of Russia (Russia).

Lyubov G. Kalinichenko, an Аrtek employee since 1983, Russian language and literature teacher at Artek school (ARTEK).

Natalia P.  Batova, Аrtek-1983; a diplomat, Rossotrudnichestvo, a founder of the Russian Cultural Center in Washington, DC, accompanied Samantha Smith to Artek (USA).

Peter Schwartzman, Artek-1984; an Associate Professor and Chair of Environmental Studies at Knox College. Trained as a climatologist, he studies the influence of humans on future climate change (USA).

Yury N. Malyshev, an Аrtek employee since 1989, a leading public relations specialist, press-center, (ARTEK).

Michelle Nedashkovskaya, Artek-2009; She is the future of the international diplomacy, her first steps in that field were made at Artek; now - MPA Candidate at the Princeton University,  Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs; worked with the OSCE, U.S. Department of State, German Parliament, U.S. Mission to UN, Council on Foreign Relations (USA).

Matthias Neumann, Artek-2019, Senior Lecturer in Modern Russian History at the University of East Anglia, UK. He has published widely on the history of childhood and youth in revolutionary Russia. The President-elect of the British Association for Slavonic and East European Studies. His new research project examines cultural exchange programmes which enabled American children to visit the Soviet Union (Artek) during the Cold War (Great Britain).
